Choosing your instance size

There are 3 different instance sizes of Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift to choose from:

  • t2.medium: $1.37 p/hour or $10,200 p/annum
  • m4.large: $2.74 p/hour or $20,400 p/annum
  • m4.xlarge: $5.48 p/hour or $40,800 p/annum

Each instance size supports a maximum number of concurrent users accessing Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift. Also, a maximum number of saved environments – the configuration which connects a Matillion project to an Amazon Redshift cluster.

The different instance sizes also offer different performance. Larger instances deliver higher performance, particularly data load performance. Larger instances also have more cores, which delivers greater concurrency in orchestration jobs.

Suitable for individuals, small teams or POCs.

  • Supports max 2 concurrent users
  • Maximum 6 saved environments (1 environment = 1 project connection to 1 Amazon Redshift cluster)
  • t2.medium EC2 instance delivers data load performance suitable for medium data volume/performance requirements
  • t2.medium EC2 instances have 2 cores, meaning a maximum of 2 threads (e.g. 2 concurrent data loads, or 2 concurrent transforms) will run concurrently in an Orchestration job

Each instance size supports a maximum number of concurrent users accessing Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift. Also, a maximum number of saved environments – the configuration which connects a Matillion projects to an Amazon Redshift cluster.

The different instance sizes also offer different performance. Larger instances deliver higher performance, particularly data ingestion performance. Larger instances also have more cores, which delivers greater concurrency in orchestration jobs.

Suitable for teams of up to 5 and suitable for production workloads.

  • Supports max 5 concurrent users
  • Maximum 15 saved environments (1 environment = 1 project connection to 1 Redshift cluster)
  • m4.large EC2 instance delivers data load performance suitable for production data volume/performance requirements
  • m4.large EC2 instances have 4 cores, meaning a maximum of 4 threads (e.g. 4 concurrent data loads, or 4 concurrent transforms) will run concurrently in an Orchestration job

The different instance sizes also offer different performance. Larger instances deliver higher performance, particularly data ingestion performance. Larger instances also have more cores, which delivers greater concurrency in orchestration jobs.

Suitable for larger teams and larger or higher performance production workloads.

  • Supports max 12 concurrent users
  • Maximum 36 saved environments (1 environment = 1 project connection to 1 Redshift cluster)
  • m4.xlarge EC2 instance delivers data load performance suitable for larger data volumes and/or higher performance requirements
  • m4.xlarge EC2 instances have 8 cores, meaning a maximum of 8 threads (e.g. 8 concurrent data loads, or 8 concurrent transforms) will run concurrently in an Orchestration job

Each instance size supports a maximum number of concurrent users accessing Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift. Also, a maximum number of saved environments – the configuration which connects a Matillion projects to an Amazon Redshift cluster.

Hourly or Annual Billing

You can pay for Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift by the hour, or annually.

Hourly

Hourly billing charges whenever the Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift instance is started in your EC2 console. You need the Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift instance started when:

  • Developers or administrators are using the tool to develop data integrations, monitor activity or otherwise use the software
  • You are using the scheduler to automatically run data loads/transformations/integrations
  • You are using the API or Amazon SQS integration

When a Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift instance is stopped in the EC2 console, you are not charged. The instance will pick-up where it left off when you restart it (restoring jobs you have developed, for instance).

Hourly customers can get support through the Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift support portal.

Hourly is ideal for proof of concepts, trials and projects where you do not need to use the instance all the time.

Annual

Annual customers pay a one-off annual subscription for unlimited use of the Matillion ETL for Amazon Redshift instance.

Like Hourly users, annual customers also receive support via the support portal, however they can also gain privileged access to our engineers via e-mail and phone.

Annual subscriptions are ideal for production workloads, as it works out cheaper than running an hourly instance 24 x 7.  Also where a direct relationship is required or valuable.

Upgrading your instance

You can upgrade your instance, for example, from an m4.large to an m4.xlarge, at any time.

For hourly users, simply change the instance size via your EC2 console. AWS Marketplace will adjust the billing to the correct rate. Your data (e.g. saved jobs, configurations, logs) will all be preserved.

For annual customers, talk to our sales team team who will walk you through the simple process to upgrade. You can upgrade in a few minutes.

Multiple Instances

You may choose to use more than one instance, for example to support two separate projects, or an instance for development and another for production. Purchase extra instances as required via the AWS Marketplace, either hourly or annually.

If you have a requirement for a large number of instances, or enterprise-wide licencing, talk to our sales team about an enterprise licencing agreement.
