Matillion Values: Hanging at Brent’s Place
Being a part of #TeamGreen means living and breathing our core Matillion values. In this blog, we hear from Account Executive Josh Mann on his dedication to our sixth core value: We care about our people and our communities.
One of the greatest perks of being a Matillioner is our commitment to service. As part of our core Matillion values, we try to treat people how we would like to be treated. This extends outside of our office walls and into the areas where we work. In fact, every employee at Matillion is given five paid volunteer days to support charitable organizations in the US and the UK. As part of our Matillion We Care program, our Denver and Manchester offices each selected a local philanthropy to support with our time and resources.
Living our Matillion values by caring for our communities
The Manchester office supports Wood Street Mission, which helps children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford. In September 2018, the Denver office chose their own local philanthropy to support.
We partnered with Brent’s Place, an organization that provides a long-term home-away-from-home for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, while they receive treatment at local hospitals. In addition, the center gives over 200 families a year a strong support network and a helping hand. Brent’s Place provides Safe-Clean housing for families during the treatment and healing process. It also has a variety of tailored programs and services designed to help the entire family navigate the challenges they face.
We launched our partnership with Brent’s Place in January 2019 with a fundraiser. We also sponsored a child’s birthday party in May. And most recently, we had the privilege of helping out at their annual block party on July 27.
The Brent’s Place block party is their largest fundraising event of the year. In addition, it’s an opportunity for current and past residents of Brent’s Place to get lost in a day of fun activities. Kids enjoyed playing carnival games, climbing the rock wall, and jumping in the massive bouncy castle.
Making a difference while making memories
Nine members of our Denver team were on hand Saturday morning to help facilitate games and activities for the kids. I had a great time interacting with the families that Brent’s Place supports. It was also a great chance to hang with coworkers that I don’t often get to talk with. In my experience, volunteering with your coworkers makes for a happy office and an awesome company culture. I can’t think of a better way to spend the day.
While some Matillioners weren’t able to give us their time, they opened their wallets and helped us exceed our fundraising goal by 162%. Thanks, team!
