Better together: measuring miles for a cause

Like most companies, Matillion is proactively working on engagement and wellness for our employees as we navigate this new world. Studies have shown the importance of feeling connected and taking care of physical and mental health to combat stress. After 6 months of officially working remotely, we wanted a way to reconnect our teams and bring everyone together to ensure we stay connected in these unprecedented times.

As part of our benefits for employees, we offer five days of volunteering leave per year. Due to COVID-19, we became increasingly conscious that not everyone was able to use these volunteering opportunities due to closures and restrictions for in-person events.

These restrictions meant that as much as we would like to, we would not be able to support our two partner charities in the same way that we normally would throughout the year. One of our core values is we care about our people and our communities and we partner with charities located in both of our headquarter cities: Wood Street Mission, a children’s charity, helping children and low-income families in the Manchester area, and Brent’s Place, a Colorado-based charity that offers long term housing for children and families with cancer or other life-threatening diseases.

A virtual team effort

To help support our partner charities, and to provide a fun way for our employees to stay active, we are embarking on a virtual mission. From October 1st to October 31st, the members of Team Green will log 4539 miles of activity — the distance between our two headquarters in Manchester UK, and Denver, Colorado.

We will— safely and with adherence to local government guidelines—  walk, run, cycle, hike,  and/or swim these to raise money for our charity partners. With our global team, we are sure to see some fantastic results and scenic photos from California, Seattle, New York, London, Manchester, and wherever our teammates are working remotely.
