Matillion Summer Recap

Maia, Designer Upgrades, and Expanded Integrations

What a summer it's been! We've rolled out some of our most significant updates yet to Matillion's Data Productivity Cloud, bringing you major leaps forward in AI capabilities, user experience, and connectivity.

These updates represent our commitment to delivering truly frictionless data experiences that empower your teams to move faster and unlock greater value from your data.

Here's a recap of everything that landed this summer:

Maia: Your Virtual Data Engineering Team

The biggest story of our summer (...probably the biggest story of the year!): Maia

An advanced, generative AI-powered system that provides virtual data engineers designed to work in concert with human teams, operating on Matillion's proven Data Productivity Cloud platform.

This isn't a copilot: it's a fundamental shift in how data engineering gets done.

What makes Maia revolutionary:

  • Automates repetitive work while you focus on strategic initiatives
  • Builds new data pipelines from scratch using natural language
  • Augments existing pipelines with intelligent optimizations
  • Democratizes data integration for business users and technical teams alike
  • Embraces DataOps standards while delivering immediate, relevant results

Maia transforms complex data engineering tasks into simple conversations, making advanced data capabilities accessible to everyone on your team.

User Interface Updates

We’ve given the Designer a major upgrade to make building and managing your data pipelines faster and more intuitive.

  • New global navigation on the left puts every part of the Data Productivity Cloud just a click away.
  • Faster pipeline loading means you can get to work without the wait.
  • A cleaner, more open canvas gives you more space to focus on building.
  • A fully flexible Files panel; collapse it, move it anywhere on the canvas, or dock it where it works best for you.

These changes are all about making your workflow smoother, so you can spend less time navigating and more time delivering data insights.

Upsert Vector Data into Amazon OpenSearch

We’ve added a new Amazon OpenSearch Upsert component that lets you upsert data - converted into vector embeddings - directly into an Amazon OpenSearch Service index. It works with provisioned OpenSearch services and supports embeddings generated by Amazon Bedrock and OpenAI.

This makes it easier than ever to integrate vector search capabilities into your data workflows.

See Your Data at a Glance with Metadata Sampling

The new metadata sampling feature makes it easier to understand your data without leaving the Designer. In the Metadata tab, you can now instantly view the name, data type, and size of each column in a component’s output.

Need to build a table? Switch to text mode to quickly generate a table with the Create Table component, no guesswork, just the details you need to move faster.

More Ways to Connect Your Data

We’ve expanded our connector library to give you even more flexibility in how you move and integrate data:

  • Google Sheets (Modular Connector) – Now supports storage as a destination, making it easy to transfer data from Google Sheets to Cloud Storage, plus full lineage support. This replaces the Google Sheets Query component.
  • X Ads – Connect to the X Ads (formerly Twitter Ads) API to retrieve campaign data and load it into your tables.
  • Microsoft SQL Server Load & PostgreSQL Load – Now offers incremental loading, along with Salesforce Load and X Ads Load, so you can keep your data fresh without full reloads.
  • New Flex Connectors – Added support for Dropbox, Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft Dataverse, Salesforce Pardot, and Zuora.

These additions mean faster integrations, more automation, and fewer workarounds for your pipelines.

With these updates, the Matillion Data Productivity Cloud is faster, more intelligent, and more connected than ever. Whether you’re streamlining your pipelines, tapping into AI-powered features, or expanding your integrations, we’ve got you covered.

What’s New in the Data Productivity Cloud: August 2025

Above is our (concise) roundup of summer, but what’s new in the Data Productivity Cloud in August…?

Building on our incredible summer of innovation, we're excited to share the latest enhancements to Matillion's Data Productivity Cloud, which continue to make your data workflows smarter and more efficient.

Maia Gets Even Smarter

Your virtual data engineering team can now help build orchestration pipelines containing Flex and custom connectors. Simply provide a link to the API documentation you're connecting to, and let Maia handle the rest, making custom integrations easier than ever.

Expanded Incremental Loading

We've added two new connectors with incremental load capabilities: JDBC Load for any JDBC-compatible data source and MariaDB Load (also compatible with MySQL). These join our existing incremental load connectors to help you significantly reduce pipeline runtime and resource consumption by syncing only new or changed data.

Enhanced Data Export & Collaboration

Sample data can now be exported as CSV with a simple click, making it easier to bring data into other tools for analysis. We've also streamlined merge conflict resolution with improved UI that guides you step-by-step through the process, plus added a new feedback system for our documentation so you can help us improve the experience for everyone.
