Snowflake Summit 2025: Key Takeaways – The Agentic AI Revolution

It’s a wrap on another incredible Snowflake Summit! This year's event in San Francisco brought together data professionals, engineers, and business leaders from across the globe, with a timely theme of ‘Building the Future of AI and Apps’.

As proud elite partners with Snowflake, our team had front-row seats to witness some truly game-changing announcements that will undoubtedly reshape how organizations approach data integration and AI.

Here are our key takeaways from four days of innovation, networking, and learning at Moscone Center.

Summit 2025 at a Glance

Featuring over 500 sessions, hands-on labs, and training opportunities, attendees dove deep into Snowflake's latest technology innovations.

The key message was clear: we're entering a new era where AI governance, not just model sophistication, determines enterprise success. This shift addresses the critical barrier that's been preventing AI from scaling beyond proof-of-concept in most organizations.

Meet Maia: Matillion's Game-Changing Announcement

For all of us at Matillion, the highlight of Summit 2025 was unveiling Maia, our team of virtual data engineers that are set to revolutionize how data teams work. Launched exclusively at Snowflake Summit, Maia’s AI engineers quickly and easily create complex end-to-end data pipelines from natural language prompts, simultaneously enabling less technical users and accelerating data engineering projects.

As our co-founder and CEO Matthew Scullion explained, "Data engineering is centered on repetitive work that is important, but often gritty and sometimes boring. Imagine what could be achieved if the heavy-lifting of that gritty work was taken away, so data engineers could focus instead on driving real business value and impact. That is exactly what Maia does – data engineering at the speed of thought."

It was a joy to demonstrate Maia’s capabilities to a captivated audience at the event – and witness genuine awe at what the feature is able to achieve. What makes Maia truly revolutionary is that it goes far beyond simple code generation, working end-to-end across the full workflow of data engineering, including ingestion, transformation, orchestration, data quality, DataOps, management and beyond.

As anyone who saw a demo will attest – Maia is here to change the future of data engineering. If you couldn’t make it to Snowflake Summit this year, you can join one of our weekly live demos to see Maia in action. Save your spot here

Matillion's Summit Speaker Sessions

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who joined us for Matillion’s speaker sessions during the event. We were privileged to showcase customer success stories from Edmund Optics and Allegis Group, as well as lead conversations around LLMs and agentic AI.

These sessions focused on how intelligent data integration platforms are evolving to support the new AI-driven data landscape. We honed in on the power of unlocking insights from unstructured data sources, and explored what agentic AI means for the future of data engineering.

Once again, the introduction of Maia took the spotlight – with our experts able to demonstrate how Maia acts like a virtual team of data engineers, intelligently transforming documents, PDFs, emails and more into analytics-ready pipelines, fast.

Snowflake's AI Revolution: What It Means for Data Integration

The big news from our hosts was the evolution of Snowflake Intelligence – offering business users the ability to converse with data using natural language, creating an ecosystem where data work becomes more accessible and impactful.

The upcoming introduction of Snowflake’s Data Science Agent promises to assist users with routine tasks, eliminating some of the technical friction that often prevents timely decision-making.

Snowflake also announced Cortex AISQL, which embeds generative AI directly into SQL queries to analyze all types of data including unstructured content, SnowConvert AI was unveiled – an automated migration tool that accelerates moves from legacy data platforms to Snowflake.

Key Infrastructure and Performance Announcements

Several significant Snowflake infrastructure improvements were unveiled at Summit 2025. Openflow, a multimodal data ingestion service, addresses persistent data silo challenges that have hindered AI adoption across enterprises. The platform's enhanced Apache Iceberg support and native dbt Projects integration demonstrate a strategic focus on interoperability within existing data ecosystems.

Performance enhancements were equally notable, with Standard Warehouse Generation 2 delivering 2.1x faster analytics performance for core workloads. Snowflake Adaptive Compute introduces intelligent resource scaling and query routing, reducing the operational overhead that typically burdens data teams.

SnowConvert AI emerged as a solution to one of the industry's most persistent challenges: legacy system migration. The tool automates code conversion and validation processes, potentially reducing the complexity and risk that have historically prevented organizations from modernizing their data infrastructure. By streamlining migration workflows, SnowConvert AI could accelerate enterprise adoption of cloud-native data platforms across the industry.

Snowflake Marketplace Evolution and Our Partnership

The evolution of Marketplace with agentic Snowflake Native Apps creates new opportunities for partners like us. Deploy Matillion’s Data Productivity Cloud directly through Snowflake Marketplace to experience the easy, trusted and connected experience of Snowflake's ecosystem.

As a Snowflake Native App, Matillion is designed to work alongside the tools and technologies enterprises already rely on. That means customers can connect to hundreds of common SaaS and enterprise data sources and build intelligent pipelines that span their full data ecosystem.

What This Means for Data Teams

Summit 2025's announcements stand up as validation of the direction the entire industry is heading.

The democratization of AI and data capabilities, without sacrificing governance or performance, is precisely what we've been working toward with Maia and Matillion’s Data Productivity Cloud.

For data engineers, the message is clear: your role is evolving from manual pipeline construction to strategic data architecture and business value creation. Tools like Maia handle the gritty work, so you can focus on innovation and impact.

For business users, the combination of Snowflake Intelligence and solutions like Maia means you can build, modify, and understand data pipelines using natural language – no technical expertise required.

For data leaders, the emphasis on governance and observability means you can finally scale AI initiatives with confidence, knowing that trust and compliance are built into the foundations.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Intelligent Data Integration

As we reflect on Summit 2025, we're more excited than ever about the future of data integration.

Maia represents our vision of that future – where data engineering happens at the speed of thought, where technical barriers don't limit business innovation, and where data teams can focus on creating impact rather than managing infrastructure.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Snowflake Summit 2025 – here's to building the future of AI and apps together!
