Team Green Joins The Tech Talent Charter

We believe that our team members make our company successful and recruiting diverse talent helps make Matillion a better company. This month, Matillion became a signatory of the Tech Talent Charter (TTC) and pledged to help solve the diversity problem in tech through a collective effort across companies and sectors.

A commitment to diversity and inclusion

In their own words:  

“The Tech Talent Charter (TTC) is a commitment by organizations to a set of undertakings that aim to deliver greater inclusion and diversity in the tech workforce of the UK, one that better reflects the make-up of the population.  This covers both organizations in the technology sector itself, and organizations across all other sectors that have employees in tech roles.  Signatories of the charter make a number of pledges in relation to their approach to recruitment and retention.  Although it is very much an employer-led initiative, the TTC is supported in the Government’s UK Digital Strategy.”

Signing up with TTC is another step in the inclusion journey at Matillion and helps us to turn our words into action. We can leverage the organization for support in a number of areas, including adopting inclusive recruitment and promotion processes, and practices to support the growth and retention of a diverse workforce. Additionally, we now have access to regular events where organizations can share their experiences and ideas.

Improving D&I in the U.K. tech scene

Tech Nation reported a growing demand for tech roles in the UK, with an increase of 40% within the past two years. However, there is still a large gender and ethnicity gap within tech companies and a lack of investment given to diverse founders. For every 100 people working in digital tech jobs in 2019, only 25 were women and 13 were from an ethnic minority. 

These figures and others like them remind us that we still have work to do in order to improve inclusion and diversity in tech. And we are taking steps to make that happen at Matillion. Along with our inclusion journey, training and education support from the TTC helps to inform our team members and ensure we are working with the latest best practices for these efforts.
